Phase Two of Hartlepool Waterfront Connectivity Project Underway

by Evelyn

The second phase of Hartlepool’s Waterfront Connectivity project has begun, focusing on enhancing pedestrian paths, cycling routes, street lighting, and signage around the Hartlepool Marina and The Waterfront area. This phase builds on the success of the pedestrian route linking Seaton Carew to the Marina, which opened in 2023.

The first set of improvements is centered on the Victoria Terrace and Maritime Avenue junction. The work involves resurfacing the roads and installing traffic-calming measures to enhance safety and accessibility.

Darren Hankey, Chair of the Hartlepool Town Deal Board, was present at the site to observe the start of the roadworks.

Councillor Pamela Hargreaves, chair of the economic growth and regeneration committee at Hartlepool Borough Council, expressed enthusiasm about the ongoing improvements. She highlighted that the area is home to several significant visitor attractions and emphasized that the £140 million capital regeneration program is crucial in improving access to these sites.

The upcoming improvements will include upgrades to footpaths and cycleways extending from the town center to Maritime Avenue. A new plaza will also be created outside the Museum of Hartlepool. Additionally, an existing footpath and cycleway along Slake Terrace will be extended towards the marina lock gates, facilitating better connectivity.

Further enhancements will complement the ongoing cycle and footpath improvements funded by the Tees Valley Combined Authority. This initiative is part of a larger £25 million investment from the Hartlepool Town Deal, which includes five regeneration projects aimed at revitalizing the town.
