A major seaside attraction is making a triumphant return to Worthing, just in time for the summer season. The towering 144-foot-high observation wheel will once again offer breathtaking views of the West Sussex coast, with rides priced at just £5 per spin.
Locals and visitors alike will be able to enjoy the stunning vistas from as early as this month, with the wheel set to open on April 7. Positioned between the pier and the lido, directly opposite Montague Place, this much-anticipated attraction will remain in place every summer until 2028, operating from March through November.
The decision to bring the Ferris wheel back was approved by Worthing Borough Council, which has partnered with City Observations to provide a high-tech, 44-meter electric observation wheel. The wheel promises to become one of the town’s most popular attractions, drawing both tourists and residents eager to experience the panoramic views.
While the giant wheel has sparked some concerns among local residents, particularly over its impact on views of historic buildings and nearby homes, planners have emphasized the benefits it will bring to tourism and the local economy. The council noted that any potential harm from the structure would be “limited.”
Ticket prices for the observation wheel are set at £5 for children under 16 and £6 for adults, with family and group tickets also available. The wheel will operate daily from 10 am to 8 pm, weather permitting.
A council spokesperson shared that the attraction is being introduced at no cost to the local authority, thanks to the partnership with City Observations. Last year, the wheel operated for a three-month period, delighting visitors before closing in September.
The return of the wheel coincides with ongoing repairs to Worthing’s historic pier, which was forced to close unexpectedly last October due to structural damage. The pier is scheduled to reopen in November after essential repairs, including the installation of a new steel support structure, are completed.
Worthing, which boasts a laid-back atmosphere, colorful streets, and independent shops, has recently been recognized as one of the best places to live in the UK. The town’s beach has also earned acclaim, having been named one of the best in the country for four consecutive years.
In nearby Eastbourne, another coastal town is joining the big wheel trend with the opening of its own towering ride, the “Sky Club,” which debuted on April 5. Eastbourne Borough Council has hailed the attraction as a “crowd-pleaser,” expecting it to boost foot traffic and contribute to the local economy.
With its stunning views and family-friendly appeal, the return of Worthing’s observation wheel is set to be one of the highlights of the 2025 summer season.
