The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has revealed important dates for the open houses and dedications of new temples in Antofagasta, Chile; Bahía Blanca, Argentina; and West Jordan, Utah.
Antofagasta Chile Temple
The Antofagasta Chile Temple will host a media day on May 12, 2025, followed by an invitation-only tour for guests on May 13. The public open house will run from May 14 to May 24, 2025, excluding Sundays. Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will dedicate the temple on June 15, 2025, with the session being broadcast to all congregations in the temple district.
President Russell M. Nelson first announced the temple during the April 2019 general conference, emphasizing the importance of sacred temples in helping God’s children return to Him. The temple will be the third in Chile, joining those in Concepción and Santiago, and is part of ongoing growth in the country. Chile, home to over 610,000 Latter-day Saints, has seen the establishment of new temples in Santiago West, Puerto Montt, and Viña del Mar.
Bahía Blanca Argentina Temple
For the Bahía Blanca Argentina Temple, a media day will take place on October 14, 2025, followed by a two-day tour for invited guests. The public open house will run from October 16 to November 1, 2025, excluding Sundays. Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will dedicate the temple on November 23, 2025, with the dedicatory session also being broadcast to all congregations in the district.
This temple, announced by President Nelson in April 2020, will be the fifth in Argentina, joining others in Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires City Center, Córdoba, Rosario, and Salta. The Mendoza Argentina Temple was dedicated in September 2024 by Elder Ronald A. Rasband.
West Jordan Utah Temple
An artistic rendering for the West Jordan Utah Temple has been released, featuring a design that reflects the temple’s location and purpose. The temple, which will be built on a 16.10-acre site near the intersection of 7148 South and State Route 111, will cover approximately 85,000 square feet and include a new meetinghouse.
President Nelson announced this temple during the April 2024 general conference. Utah, where the Church’s headquarters are located, is home to over 2.2 million Latter-day Saints, making it the state with the largest concentration of members. The West Jordan Temple will be the 32nd in Utah, joining a growing network of temples in the state.
Significance of Temples
Temples play a central role in the lives of Latter-day Saints, providing a sacred space for worship, learning about God’s plan, and making covenants with God and loved ones. These sacred ordinances, which unite families for eternity, are essential to the faith and mission of the Church.
