Easter Celebrations at Naples’ Historic Museums and Botanical Gardens

by Evelyn

This Easter, the Pietrarsa National Railway Museum in Portici, near Naples, invites visitors to step back in time. On Sunday, April 20, and Monday, April 21, the FS Foundation museum complex will open its doors, offering access to its historic pavilions and flower-lined avenues with breathtaking views of the Gulf of Naples. The museum, known for its collection of vintage locomotives and carriages, provides a unique opportunity to explore the evolution of the country’s railways.

A highlight of the holiday experience includes breakfast aboard the elegant “Vesuvio” restaurant car, which has been meticulously restored to showcase its Art Nouveau style. This beautifully furnished carriage is nestled within the museum’s botanical gardens, offering picturesque views of the sea, with the islands of Capri and Ischia in the distance.

For families, a special “Botanical Treasure Hunt” will take place on Easter Monday. The interactive game invites children aged six to ten to embark on a fun and educational journey through the museum’s vibrant flowerbeds. The activity will run at three times: 11:00, 12:30, and 16:00. Participation is limited, and reservations are required via WhatsApp at +39 335 6422368.

In addition to the Pietrarsa Museum, the Royal Palace of Naples and the Diego Aragona Pignatelli Cortes Museum will also be open to the public on Easter Sunday and Monday. Both attractions will follow their regular operating hours and pricing.

Looking ahead, the “A King’s Saturday” initiative will return on April 26, offering extraordinary evening hours at discounted rates. The Royal Palace of Naples will be open from 20:00 to 23:00, with last entry at 19:30, for €22.30. Meanwhile, the Pignatelli Museum will extend its hours from 15:00 to 22:00, with last entry at 16:10, priced at €14.00. A combined ticket for both museums is available for €25.

For those planning visits during the upcoming public holidays, both museums will offer reduced admission on April 4 and May 1. Admission will be free on April 25, Liberation Day, as part of a nationwide initiative by the Ministry of Culture, as well as on May 1, Labor Day.
