Lucknow, [Date] – In a significant move to enhance tourism and upgrade religious sites, the Uttar Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has sanctioned ₹118.28 crore for the development of key monuments, temples, and tourist destinations across the state. A major portion of the funds will be allocated to Agra, a city renowned for its historical and cultural heritage.
Atal Smarak in Bateshwar to Honor Former PM Vajpayee
A notable ₹22.76 crore has been earmarked for the construction of the Atal Smarak in Bateshwar, a memorial dedicated to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a recipient of the Bharat Ratna. The project, overseen by the UP Tourism Department and executed by the UP Project Corporation, will feature a statue of Vajpayee and highlight his contributions to the nation.
Tourist and Religious Sites to Receive Infrastructure Boost
A substantial ₹71.50 crore will be utilized to improve facilities at various tourist and religious sites, ensuring better accessibility and visitor comfort. Additionally, ₹2.05 crore has been allocated for installing new signage at key locations, including ₹12.48 lakh for Holipura village in Bah.
Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh emphasized Agra’s prominence as a top destination for foreign tourists, home to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites. “Development work is underway to enhance convenience for visitors at these heritage and religious sites,” he stated. The initiative is funded through the Tourism Development and Infrastructure Fund.
Major Upgrades for Agra’s Temples
Several prominent temples in Agra will undergo renovations under this scheme, including:
Dhakam Mata Temple (Khedi): ₹88.30 lakh
Kailash Temple (Sikandra): ₹15.26 crore
Dariyanath Temple (Rajamandi), Balkeshwar Mahadev Temple, Dashrath Kunj Temple (Shaheed Park), Shiv Mandir (Fatehabad), and Hanuman Mandir (Collectorate area)
Strict Quality Control Measures
Minister Singh warned against substandard work, stating, “Negligence in quality and standards will not be tolerated.” The government aims to preserve the heritage of these sites while making them more appealing to domestic and international tourists.
