Taif, a picturesque valley located about 40 miles from Makkah in Saudi Arabia, is celebrated for its fertile gardens and stunning mountainous terrain. It holds a significant place in Islamic history, particularly as the city where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) faced persecution while spreading the message of Islam.
The city is remembered for a difficult chapter in the Prophet’s life when, after inviting the local tribes to Islam, he was attacked by a group of young men. Despite suffering injuries, the Prophet (PBUH) showed immense patience and mercy. When the Angel Jibreel (AS) offered to destroy the city in retaliation, the Prophet (PBUH) refused and instead prayed for the people of Taif. Today, the site where this event occurred has evolved into a bustling market, complete with scenic walkways, restaurants, and recreational areas.
Among the city’s notable historical landmarks is Masjid Abbas, located near the old Taif wall, a place where the Prophet (PBUH) endured his injuries. Visitors can now experience a blend of traditional Arab culture and modern amenities, allowing them to explore ancient household practices while enjoying the city’s contemporary offerings.
In addition to its rich historical and cultural heritage, Taif plays a crucial role in Saudi Arabia’s agricultural sector. The Al-Quraish Rose Factory, established by the Quraish tribe, is one of the city’s key attractions. The factory, which was founded in 1996 by Mohannad Al-Quraishi’s father, Rashid Al-Quraishi, initially produced rose essence using traditional methods to create perfumes, creams, and lotions. These products were initially reserved for the royal family and used as government gifts.
However, with the support of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Vision 2030, the factory is now expanding its reach. Dr. Imad Kashmiri, a representative of the Saudi Tourism Authority, confirmed that the factory’s products will be commercially marketed, with new financial and technical investments, including a new production plant.
During the winter months, Taif’s natural beauty is at its peak, attracting tourists to its lush green mountains, diverse restaurants, coffee houses, and entertainment venues. The city’s combination of rich history, scenic landscapes, and cultural experiences makes it a major destination for those exploring the heritage and beauty of Saudi Arabia.
